Howard Hendricks taught Bible study at Dallas Theological Seminary for decades. In Living by the Book: The Art and Science of Reading the Bible, written with his son Bill, he puts his method in one place. It rests on three steps: observation (what do I see?), interpretation (what does it mean?) and application (how does it work in my life?). Each step comes with exercises, so you learn by doing it with the text open in front of you.

I recommend it because it trains people to dig into Scripture for themselves instead of waiting for someone else to tell them what it says. It is the same Observe, Interpret, Apply pattern we use in the Storyline One Year Bible.
